World Book Day - 1st March 2018

It’s World Book Day on Thursday 1st March and all East Sussex County libraries are getting involved. The popular World Book Day £1 tokens, provided by Bookstart, will be gifted at all our libraries across East Sussex.
These tokens will be handed out to children aged 0-4 who visit the library on World Book Day, and also at our Rhymetimes and Storytimes taking place during the week of 26th February – 3rd March.
The £1 tokens will be accepted at all participating bookshops, supermarkets and retailers, who should be displaying the WBD posters in their windows, and can be used as payment towards an official WBD book, including books for pre-schoolers.


The East Sussex Joint Strategic Needs and Assets Assessment (JSNAA)

The JSNAA is available at www.eastsussexjsna.org.uk. The site contains both local and national resources for those who commission, provide or use health and social care services in East Sussex.

On the site you will find:

  • area summaries
  • local comprehensive needs assessments 
  • profiles that compare our local data with national data 
  • overview reports and briefings that pull information from a wide range of sources into one document

East Sussex County Council Consultations

The County Council agreed its budget for 2018/19 at its meeting on 6 February. It will see the Council make savings of £17 million, including in Adult Social Care and Household Waste Recycling Sites . Half Term Newhaven Bake-Off

• Looking for 4 teams of 3 people (minimum one adult in each group, final numbers and sizes of teams to be determined as people sign up, so there will be some flexibility.)
• There will be a selection of straightforward recipes and all the ingredients… you can choose which one to bake with your team…
• Also looking for two volunteer judges (unrelated to teams!) to give friendly encouragement… and award a special prize to each team.

Easter Holiday Family Fun

Due to popularity SCDA are running another Five Ways Challenge! Teach the kids in your life about wellbeing while having fun during half term. You’ll plant seeds, do crafts, eat snacks, play games and go for a nature walk. Children will be encouraged to do five special things during the event that fit into the Five Ways to Wellbeing and will get to use stickers to show what they’ve done.

SCDA run Health Check clinics in every town in East Sussex throughout the year, there is always a clinic running near you, to find out where call 0300 303 3624 or email: healthy@sussexcommunity.org.uk.
There are evenings and Saturday appointments available.
Please call to book your 45 minute slot to get your health checked.
During the check you will find out your cholesterol, blood pressure, BMI and explain the best ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

  EAST SUSSEX IN FIGURES    
 
 


East Sussex in Figures (ESiF) is the local information system (LIS) for the county.  It’s a website that provides access to essential data, information and analysis.

Headlines

The East Sussex economy generated £18,866 Gross Value Added (GVA) per head in 2016, up 1.6% since the previous year.  This is 71.6% of the UK average.  A new briefing on GVA is now available on ESiF.

A child born in East Sussex in 2014-2016 can expect to live to 84.0 years if they are female and 80.3 years if they are male, which is slightly above the national average life expectancy.

In 2016/17 there were 1,020 new dwellings completed in the county, up from 830 the previous year , but lower than the 1,060 completed in 2014/15.

In December 2017 there were 8,167 people claiming Universal Credit (UC) in the county, 38% of whom were in employment.  UC has now been rolled out in all districts except Lewes.
