Thank You for Telling Us What You Think About the Key Priorities for Children and Young People
We are preparing a new Children and Young People's Plan (CYPP) for
2008-2011 and as part of this process we asked you to tell us your views
about the key priorities in East Sussex.
The consultation closed on 2 April 2008 and we would like to extend a
sincere thank you to all those people who completed a detailed staff
questionnaire or a shorter postcard questionnaire for parents and carers. We
would also like to thank all of the staff from a range of agencies who helped
us to distribute and collect questionnaires - we could not have done this
without you!
What happens next?
We have received more than 480 responses to the staff questionnaire and
more than 1500 responses to the postcard questionnaire. We will be working
hard over the next few weeks to incorporate your views into the new Children
and Young People's Plan 2008-2011. The new plan and a summary of
consultation responses will be published here at the end of June 2008.
And that is not all - we will be referring back to your comments over the life of
the plan to inform how we develop and improve our services for children and
young people across the county and in local areas.
For more information, please call Penny Beynon 01273 335342 or Diana
Francombe 01273 481902, or email

Thank you - we value your views.
Two Days of Sport and PE for Talented Youngsters
More than 400 sporting students from secondary schools across East
Sussex took part in Physical Education Enrichment Days on 26 and 27
March at the University of Brighton campus, Eastbourne.
They were held to promote the development of sport within schools
and to encourage and support children who show a talent for PE.
 |
 |
Students took part in a programme of sports, dance and PE skills, which included problem
solving, team building and incentive activities.
The days were organised by the County Council's PE and Sports Development
Team,
in conjunction with a team of secondary school PE teachers and the University of Brighton. Also taking part, and working alongside the students,
were sport leaders
from mainstream secondary schools, community colleges
and further education
colleges, plus volunteers from the University.
Coming up: the East Sussex sport awards for young people on 13 May.

Successful safety event at Hailsham East Community Centre
Several agencies have worked together to hold a successful safety event at
Hailsham
East Community Centre on 21 February. The event was a great
success, with 176
children and 94 adults taking part.
 |
There were lots of activities
for
children
and their families on offer,
including a penalty shoot-out. ...........................
|
Everyone got involved and had fun. The young people also enjoyed sitting in a police car
and fire engine, spotting the electrical hazards, and experimenting with
a new, effective hand-wash detector. There were also car seat checks,
community safety displays and a child safety equipment display. And
the children enjoyed free fruit donated by Waitrose. The safety event was funded by a Health Improvement Grant from
East Sussex Downs and Wealden Primary Care Trust.
Agencies represented included:
Wealden District Council
Sure Start
East Sussex Fire & Rescue
East Sussex County Council
Sussex Police
EDF Energy
East Sussex Downs & Weald PCT
Safer Wealden Partnership
